What's the Word? Weekend #36

It's time for What's the Word? Weekend number thirty-six!  :)

 I know it's been a while since I've posted (again--SORRY!), so let's take a look at this weekend's news:

The Bad News:
I have to start waking up at 7 AM for my job (which is different from the 7:45 wake-up I had during training week).

The Good News:
I'm done writing the first draft of Zulu Tribe!!!!!!!! <:D
This is part of the reason I haven't really been posting. All I've done for the past week is go to Staff Training/Pre-Camp, go to the gym, come home and eat dinner (while watching like an hour of TV) and then go to bed--day in and day out. So, it was SUPER hard to get any writing done at all during the week, let alone come and post on here. So yeah, I somehow managed to finish the book ... YAAAAAAY!!!
The final word count is 50,766 words!!!
And it did end up being 12 Chapters (Plus a Prologue) as I planned. :)
The Game Plan: I would like to read through it once and make the general changes that I want to fix (which I have a long list of), and then hopefully read it over a couple more times before I start sticking my feet in the water in the literary agent search again. It's still probably going to be hard for me to find time to read and edit my manuscript while I'm working, but I think doing it in bits and pieces over the remainder of a summer will be easier for me than writing (only because I feel I need to be more focused (ie less tired) and in the zone to write...but maybe that's just me).

I have a good feeling about this book, guys, I really, really do. :D

In other news:
So I got to "skip" the last three days of Staff Training and be a counselor during pre-camp since I am a returning staff member. While I am honored to have been chosen to help run pre-camp (because not all returning staff got asked to do it), it was kind of a bummer at times because I didn't get to really bond with any of the new (and even some of the old) staff members (because in Staff Training we play A LOT of fun games with each other and get to know each other). Also, the almost half of the kids I had in my pre-camp group were troublemakers (as opposed to the maybe 2 or 3 troublemakers you get in your group during regular camp). It was still fun though--some of the kids were awesome--which is why I didn't want to put this under Bad News. I also liked getting to bond with another awesome returning staff member who was my co-counselor for the three days since I didn't really get to hang out with her last year (since we were in different groups). So yeah, I'm actually excited to start real camp on Monday to see who my co-counselor(s) is and who my campers are.

Well, that's all for this weekend folks! Until next time! :)

What's the Word? Weekend #35

It's time for What's the Word? Weekend number thirty-five!  :)

I know it's been a while since I've posted, so let's take a look at this weekend's news:

The Bad News:
I start training for my job at a summer camp on Saturday. This isn't really bad news since I like my job ... it just stinks that I made a timeline for myself to finish Zulu Tribe before I started work so I only have a week left. It also means no more staying up late and sleeping in during the week.

The Good News:
I'm half way done writing Zulu Tribe, chapter wise. I'm just about done with Chapter 6, and the book is outlined to be twelve chapters long. The current word count is 28,120 words, and since it's a middle grade book I would say that I'm more than halfway done in terms of word count (but then again who knows what the final word count will actually end up being).
So yeah, I'm a little stressed that I still have 6 chapters left because I want to finish writing the book this week. But I think I can do it--it just means cutting down on my TV time and Internet browsing time A LOT. :)

In other news:
I finished all my finals (and came home) about a month ago (on May 19 to be exact). I'm officially an upcoming senior in college (or I guess, officially a senior since the Class of 2013 has graduated)... as I've said before .... SCARY!!!
Also, a couple weeks ago I started volunteering in the Pediatric Clinic of a local hospital once a week, which is really fun because I get to color and hang out with so many different kids (while they're waiting in the waiting area to see the doctor). This coming Wednesday I'm supposed to get training to be able to do some other things for the nurses and doctors there (since it can sometimes be slow at the coloring table depending on how many kids have an appointment in the afternoon), so while it probably won't be something directly involving the kids, I'm interested to find out what it is.

Well, that's all for this weekend folks! Until next time! :)
