It's time for Tuney Tuesday number 17!!!! :D
Here are the rules:
Tuney Tuesdays is a weekly meme that Eileen at ***Singing and Reading in the Rain*** and I at J.A.Y.A.! host. It's really easy! Just:
- Once a week, on Tuesday, choose a song that you might be really into that particular week.
- Include a video/cover art for that single if there is one (or the button for Tuney Tuesdays that I've made up. I'll put it later in the post.)
- Include the lyrics
- Write what you like about it in a review. Or write a few sentences about how it inspires you. Or how it relates to a book that you've been reading.
- If you don't want to do your own song, you can use one of the songs that Eileen at ***Singing and Reading in the Rain*** or I have done for this week.
So the song I chose to do this week is called Be Happy For Me by The Kinnardlys. I first heard this song a few days ago on the show Dance Moms: Miami. A young dancer, named Hannah Epstein, did a solo to this song. It was so great because this solo meant so much to her -- she doesn't look like the stereotypical dancer, so this song represents how she feels inside in wanting people to just accept her for the way she is and who she is, and not try to force her to be someone she's not (as she said in the episode). I couldn't agree with her more; Hannah should be who she wants to be ... and no matter what size she is or will be in the future, she will always be a great dancer, and an amazing performer. Is she the BEST dancer I've EVER seen? Well no, but she's only 11 YEARS OLD, and has so much room to grow and AMAZING potential! But I can always see the passion when she dances, and that is something that CANNOT be taught!!! :D
*DANCE MOMS: MIAMI SPOILER*:
It was perfect because Hannah ended up getting first place in the competition with this solo, and this was her first 1st place win for the dance season. So Congrats Hannah!!! :D
*END SPOILER*
Now, I'm not sure that the meaning behind Hannah's solo is what The Kinnardlys intended when they wrote this song (based off the lyrics), but I love that the song can be used to mean different things than what the word for word lyrics say.
Anyway, I'm so glad Hannah danced to this song, I'm really glad that Dance Moms: Miami introduced the song to me because I LOVE it and I have it on repeat as I type, and I look forward to listening to more of The Kinnardlys' songs in the future. :)
Since there's no music video for this song (and it's only fitting that I do this), I'm going to post Hannah's solo as the video (which basically has the entire song in it ... which brings up another point: considering she learned this solo is LESS THAN A WEEK, I'm amazed that she and the other dancers can remember three-minute-long dances!).
Thanks to Hannah's mom (Debi Epstein) for posting the whole solo on YouTube (Dance Moms: Miami only showed bits and pieces of it). Enjoy! :D
Lyrics courtesy of ... ME!!!! (haha, I couldn't find accurate ones online, so I did them myself ... hopefully they're right!):
Don’t be sad, be glad
Be happy for me
I’ll be home come sundown
In the land where I’m free
Though you think you’re alone
By your side I will be
Don’t be sad
Be happy for me
And the mountains are high
In the land where I’m free
And they reach for the sky
Like my dreams, like my dreams
And the sound that I love
Is the song of the sea
Don’t be sad
Be happy for me
Don’t be sad, be glad
Be happy for me
I’ll be home come sundown
In the land where I’m free
Though you think you’re alone
By your side I will be
Don’t be sad
Be happy for me
Though the parting is hard
Shed no tears, shed no tears,
Let the song of the lark
Bring a calm to your fears
As with after a storm
How serene is the sea
Don’t be sad
Be happy for me
I’ll be home come sundown
In the land where I’m free
Though you think you’re alone
By your side I will be
Don’t be sad
Be happy for me
And the mountains are high
In the land where I’m free
And they reach for the sky
Like my dreams, like my dreams
And the sound that I love
Is the song of the sea
Don’t be sad
Be happy for me
Don’t be sad, be glad
Be happy for me
I’ll be home come sundown
In the land where I’m free
Though you think you’re alone
By your side I will be
Don’t be sad
Be happy for me
Though the parting is hard
Shed no tears, shed no tears,
Let the song of the lark
Bring a calm to your fears
As with after a storm
How serene is the sea
Don’t be sad
Be happy for me
Don’t be sad
Be happy for me
Now you give me your heart
And we’ll walk hand in hand
Over low and high roads,
On the shore’s yellow sand
Don’t be sad
Be happy for me
Now you give me your heart
And we’ll walk hand in hand
Over low and high roads,
On the shore’s yellow sand
Though you think you’re alone
By your side I will be
Don’t be sad
Be happy for me
By your side I will be
Don’t be sad
Be happy for me
La la la la la la la la la la la la
La la la la la la la la la la la la
La la la la la la la la la la la la
Don't be sad
Be happy for me
Don’t be sad
Be happy, happy for me
Well, that's all for this Tuney Tuesday folks!!! Until next time!!! :D
