It's time for Feature & Follow Friday number thirty-four !!!
Let's take a look at this week's question:
QUESTION: Before blogging (dark times people!) how would you find out about new books or did you?
ANSWER: I never was a big reader growing up (something I still regret to this day), and by the time I found reading entertaining, I was already swamped with schoolwork (first high school, then college). So I'd say that I got most of my reading materials from my school. Yes, there was always the infamous required reading I had to do for English. But I remember in elementary school, we used to get these book catalogs every month that we could order books from, and I'm pretty sure I ordered quite a few (but that was back when it was socially acceptable for me to read books with big fonts and lots of pictures). Once I got older and those catalogs stopped being given out to us, I relied on the book fair my school would hold towards the end of the school year. If I remember correctly, most if not all of the books on sale were on the summer reading list, but I remember how much I enjoyed reading through the little blurbs on the list to see which books caught my attention. And then the best part was going to the library, where the book fair was held every year, and finding the book that would consume me during the last few weeks of summer (because let's be honest, I was a huge procrastinator on my summer reading).
Well, that's all for this Friday, folks! Until next time! :D

I loved the book fair at my school, although my sixth grade most of those books sounded child like to me because I was always into the older "kids" books at the time, I am a new GFC follower ;) Happy Friday!!!

I was kind of the opposite. I would look for the books that had the big fonts and the pictures because I wasn't an avid reader back then. Thanks for following me :)
DeleteI loved the book fair!! So much that even in HS and college, I volunteered to work it lol. Seeing little kids' eyes light up at books just makes my heart melt.

Haha wow I bet volunteering was so much fun! I love seeing little kids so happy, especially about books! :)
DeleteHopping through. I adored book fairs! I used to order more books than anyone else in my class.

Ooh so you were "that kid", haha....but seriously, that's awesome. I wish I had been more into reading so that I'd order more books!
DeleteThanks for hopping by! :)
Yesss. Book fairs at school were amazing. I used to circle the books I wanted in the catalog. My mom would have her homemaker catalogs and I'd have the Scholastic Book Fair catalogs. The paper they always made them in were really soft, too....hehe.
ReplyDeleteHaha I remember the paper of the catalogs I got being really thin, so they tore easily. But yeah, I used to circle the books I wanted too (which wasn't often, but sometimes). :)
DeleteOh I used to LOVE book fair week! In grade school it was fun to browse the picturey books then in middle school, when my love of reading really exploded I discovered a hoard of books! And among them was my first vampire novel and it was love at first read!
ReplyDeleteHere's my Follow Friday
Have a GREAT day!
Old Follower :)
Yeah the best part was going table to table looking at all the selections! I remember I bought Twilight at a book fair in my high school--it was either at the end of my freshman year or my sophomore year. :)
DeleteI remember how much I loved the book fair. I always came home with a book, a poster and a new bookmark =)

Your fairs had posters and bookmarks?! Lucky! I think when we were in elementary school the fairs had bookmarks, but never posters! :)
DeleteThere weren't any book fairs at my schools unfortunately and none of my friends were really big readers, but thankfully my family was more than happy to cater to my addiction! And required reading usually made me dislike the book :( I'm an old follower! Thanks for sharing :) I hope you have a great weekend!

Juli @ Universe in Words
Well I'm glad there was someone to help feed your addiction, Juli! Yeah, required reading did often take away from the book since I had to read it in a time crunch and thus couldn't enjoy it as much (especially when I had other homework to get to).
DeleteThanks for stopping by :)
I never had the option of a catalop but that would have been really cool. New GFC follower. :) Great looking blog you got here.
ReplyDeleteJazmen@ThisGirlReadsalot
Yeah, the catalog was really fun to look through as a kid. :)
DeleteOh! I remember those scholastic magazines and the smell of books when the packages would arrive to school. My FF
ReplyDeleteHaha I remember the packages arriving at school and everyone being so excited! :)

Aw, thank you! I really like you blog too (I just stopped by and left you a comment)! :)
DeleteWhat a beautiful blog! I love the Cinderella type feel! I remember the book fairs at school. I lived for those days! For me, book fair day was the best day of the year, except maybe the last day of school before summer vacation. :-) New GFC follower. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteKim @ Bookworm Book Reviews
Aw, thank you! As soon as I saw this Cinderella-esque layout, I knew I had to use it!
DeleteI think what I loved about book fair day the most was that it happened during (English?) class. I always found it more enjoyable to look at books than sit in class. :)
We didn't have book fairs at school, I feel liked I've missed out on so much awesome stuff, teehee! Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteMy FF
Haha aw, don't feel that way, Alma Reads! You didn't miss out on that much (especially since the book fairs at my school were mostly for students to just be able to purchase their summer reading books easily).
DeleteHope you're having a great weekend :)
I loved those book fairs and magazines too! I'm a new GFC follower. I love your blog layout.
