What's the Word? Weekend #5

Hey guys! :)

It's time for another ... What's the Word? Weekend!!!!!

Edit (2/28/12): This FABULOUS button was made by Eileen over at ***Singing and Reading in the Rain!!! If anyone wants her to make an awesome button to use for their blog, here's where you can go for some examples of other buttons she's made. THANKS SO MUCH EILEEN, I LOVE IT!!!!!!!

So this weekend I have some pretty good news ... well no, VERY good news!
On Thursday, I received a partial request from an agent! I was so happy (and shocked, and surprised, and, and, yeah ... but happy)!!!! This agent asked for the first three chapters of my manuscript as well as an outline of the book.
... An outline?!?! Haha I was SOOOO confused (am still kinda am, but I've sent it off now, so oh well ;) )! Like, I'd heard of a synopsis before, but never an outline .... needless to say, I was stressing out about that! So, I looked up what a novel outline is (like, in case there was any special formatting or something that I needed to do). I only found like one or two posts that address what an outline (well, the kind of outline I was going for anyway) was (and even then, it was still pretty vague/unclear to be honest), so I used my best judgement to figure out what exactly an outline should consist of. I ended up basically writing a page or two (double spaced, a couple paragraphs) summary of each chapter, noting important character introductions, scenes/events, etc. ... Hopefully this agent likes it (and will forgive me if it's not formatted the correct way ... if there is a correct way).

So yeah, that's what my weekend (err--I guess PRE-weekend) has been like! I started the outline on Thursday, and finished it Friday night (well, technically two in the morning on Saturday, but close enough). When doing research on the outline, I also looked to see how much time you have before you should send an agent your partial, and the general consensus was NO MORE THAN three days (because of course it's assumed that your manuscript is done when you query, but this particular agent's partial request is the first time I've ever heard of a writer being asked for an outline; so hopefully since I did it in like a day and a half, it'll be fine ... especially since most writers who are querying don't have an outline prepared and ready to go, right?).

This agent sounds like they'd be AMAZING to work with, so I hope they like the partial and want to see more. If not, that's okay ... I don't want to get too excited like I did with the last request I got (even though this agent doesn't seem to request as many manuscripts as the last agent who requested from me does ... or at least, people don't talk about getting requests from them as much ... haha I'm trying to be optimistic but not get my hopes up if that makes sense!!!).

Hope you are all enjoying your (hopefully) wonderful weekend! PLEASE keep your fingers-crossed for me ... this agent is definitely at the top of my list!

Thanks folks!!!! :)

  1. Congratulations! I'm so happy for you! I bet this agent's going to LOVE your work! And your partial manuscript, and your outline! You sound like you wrote a good outline.

Also, if you want to make a button for WWW, I can help you make a button, all you have to do is tell me what you have in mind for what you may want to do! Or you can try using Photobucket. It's what I use. It's like a free version of Photoshop and you can upload a picture and edit it. A lot of the more professional bloggers who're better at HTML also use Photobucket. :)

    1. Thanks Eileen! Haha yeah, hopefully I wrote a good outline ... I recently read someone else's blog who said that they were asked for the first three chapters and a SYNOPSIS from this same agent, so IDK if by outline she really meant synopsis or what ... but oh well, I think it's better that I gave a more detailed outline than a more general synopsis ... so hopefully she doesn't mind (no matter what she really meant). :)

And yes, I would LOVE for you to help me! Hmmm, I don't know what I'd want to do ... maybe something with the letters and symbols you find on a keyboard? I don't know haha :)
