Follow Me Friday #16

Hey guys!

It's time for Follow Friday number 16!!! :D



The question for this Friday is:


Question: This Sunday in the U.S. is Mother's Day. In celebration, what are some of your favorite books with strong mother/child relationships?

Answer: Hmmm, this is a tough question to answer.
I feel like in a lot of my favorite books, the mother of the main character is either dead, absent, or neglectful.
That being said, as strange of an answer as this is, I love the mother/child relationship in Roald Dahl's Matilda. I haven't read that book in FOREVER, but that was the first book that came to mind. The stupidity of Matilda's mother is incredible, and makes the book funny, enjoyable, and just ... really great! I don't know if one would define the relationship as "strong" in the good sense, but it's a unique, interesting relationship no less. And then there's also that special bond between Ms. Honey and Matilda (which I won't go into because I don't want to spoil it for those who haven't read the book). Matilda is such a classic book, and anyone who hasn't read it NEEDS TO, whether you're 12 or 32!!!!!!

    I adore Matilda! Although I'd say that probably the relationship between Matilda and Miss Honey is a much stronger/healthier relationship than between Matilda and her mom. Ah, Roald Dahl. His books were the highlights of my childhood.

    I haven't read that book, but I can see where you are coming from. There are strong relationships, there are healthy ones, and then there are those that just stand out.

    Wow, Matilda! I read that book when I was little. It was, like, ten years ago LOL I don't really remember her relationship with her mother, though...

    It's been a long time since I read that book too. I actually thought the movie make Matilda's mom look better, like at the end at least. When she willingly signed her over to Ms. Honey. I thought that was nice, sad in a way, but nice. Whereas the book the parents were just like whatever, keep her!
