Tuney Tuesday #3: My Best Days are Ahead of Me (Danny Gokey)

Hey guys!

It's that time of week again! AKA: It's Tuney Tuesday!!!!!! :D

As Eileen said...:
Tuney Tuesdays is a weekly meme that Eileen at  ***Singing and Reading in the Rain***  and I at JB Kantt at J.A.Y.A.! host. It's really easy! Just:

  • Once a week, on Tuesday, choose a song that you might be really into that particular week.
  • Include a video/cover art for that single if there is one (or the button for Tuney Tuesdays that I've made up. I'll put it later in the post.)
  • Include the lyrics
  • Write what you like about it in a review. Or write a few sentences about how it inspires you. Or how it relates to a book that you've been reading.
  • If you don't want to do your own song, you can use one of the songs that Eileen at ***Singing and Reading in the Rain*** or I have done for this week.

So the song I chose to do this week is called My Best Days are Ahead of Me, and the artist is Danny Gokey (my inspirational song # 4). The title itself is pretty self-explanatory for the song, but there's a deeper meaning behind it that some of you non-American Idol followers may not know about.

Danny Gokey came in third place during the eighth season of American Idol. What make him stand out from the gecko is not only his amazing voice, but the really unfortunate event that had taken place in his life only months before he auditioned for the show. His wife, Sophia, unfortunately passed away from a heart condition that she'd had all her life; she was the one who suggested that Danny audition in the first place, which made it that much more difficult for him. If you haven't seen his audition, or want to hear Danny go into detail about his story, I provided the video below:

But anyways, long story short I've been a HUGE fan of Danny Gokey ever since I saw that first audition of his ... and then when he sang Mariah Carey's Hero the very first week my breath was taken away because it was SOOOO good (which I highly recommend you all go listen to!).

Sorry, I got off topic again. The reason I LOVE My Best Days are Ahead of Me is not only because Danny sounds just as incredible as ever, but also because it's really a song for anybody that may be going through a hard time, no matter how serious their situation. You have to keep your head up and look forward to what a brighter tomorrow will bring you. I think Danny is living proof of that: he's just recently got married to a lucky girl named Lisa, and his foundation called Sophia's Heart is still going strong (all his wedding gifts were in the form of a donation, which is so sweet of both him and Lisa to do)! So it's okay to move on from the past, no matter how hard it is; just remember the good times and forget the bad times. :)

Lyrics (courtesy of www.elyricsworld.com):
Blowing out the candles
on another birthday cake
Old enough to look back and laugh at my mistakes
Young enough to look at the future and like what I see
My best days are ahead of me

Life hasn't always been a party
but mostly it's been good
There's only one or two things that I'd change if I could
I dont get lost in the past or get stuck in some sad memory yah
My best days are ahead of me

Age ain't nothing but a number
Sometimes I have to wonder
What does it really mean
But heeeey im still putting it together
I keep getting better
if I keep getting better
I can be whatever I want to be
My best days are ahead of me

Age ain't nothing but a number
Sometimes I have to wonder
What does it really mean
But heeeey im still putting it together
I keep getting better
if I keep getting better
I can be whatever I want to be
My best days are ahead of me

I've got sunsets to witness
dreams to dance with
beaches to walk on
and lovers to kiss
there's a whole lot of world out there
that I can't wait to see
My best days are ahead of me
My best days are ahead of me

Enjoy the rest of your Tuney Tuesday Everyone!!!! :D
