Tuney Tuesday #16: Price Tag (Jessie J)

Hey guys!

It's time for Tuney Tuesday number 16!!!! :D

Here are the rules:
Tuney Tuesdays is a weekly meme that Eileen at  ***Singing and Reading in the Rain***  and I at J.A.Y.A.! host. It's really easy! Just:
  • Once a week, on Tuesday, choose a song that you might be really into that particular week.
  • Include a video/cover art for that single if there is one (or the button for Tuney Tuesdays that I've made up. I'll put it later in the post.)
  • Include the lyrics
  • Write what you like about it in a review. Or write a few sentences about how it inspires you. Or how it relates to a book that you've been reading.
  • If you don't want to do your own song, you can use one of the songs that Eileen at ***Singing and Reading in the Rain*** or I have done for this week.

So the song I chose to do this week is Price Tag by Jessie J (featuring B.O.B). This is such a great song. I love the "feel good" feeling I get from this song. Also, the meaning of this song is very empowering. Life isn't about the flash, the glitz and the glam, the fame and fortune, or, as Jessie J says, the "price tag." Life is about just celebrating each other and celebrating what makes us all different and unique. There's so many good lines in this song, going through them all would probably take multiple posts ... but by saying "forget about the price tag" multiple times in the chorus, Jessie J is saying that we now live in a world where everything is based on money: the rich and the poor, who wears the fanciest clothes and jewelry, the stereotyping people based on looks, etc. Sometimes, people get carried away when focusing on money--which kind of goes along with those people who think "I don't care what I do in life, as long as I'm famous." Sometimes, having that mentality makes us miss the important things in life: like family, friends, love, happiness. Really, life is about just having a good time, and loving what your doing along the way (and who you're doing it with). You shouldn't focus on how much money you make, but how happy you are in life. I think this song portrays that message down to a tee, and I think it's fabulous that this particular song is the one that really made Jessie J a well-known artist. Just love each other and don't focus everything around the "money, money, money."

Lyrics courtesy of elyrics.net
Okay, Coconut man, Moon Heads and pea
You ready

Seems like everybody's got a price
I wonder how they sleep at night
When the sale comes first and the truth comes second
Just stop for a minute and smile

Why is everybody so serious?
Acting so damn mysterious
You got your shades on your eyes and your heels so high
That you can't even have a good time

Everybody look to their left
Everybody look to their right
Can you feel that? Yeah
We'll pay them with love tonight

It's not about the money, money, money
We don't need your money, money, money
We just wanna make the world dance
Forget about the price tag

Ain't about the cha-ching, cha-ching
Ain't about the ba-bling, ba-bling
Wanna make the world dance
Forget about the price tag

We need to take it back in time
When music made us all unite
And it wasn't low blows and video hoes
Am I the only one gettin' tired?

Why is everybody so obsessed?
Money can't buy us happiness
Can we all slow down and enjoy right now
Guarantee we'll be feelin' alright

Everybody look to their left
Everybody look to their right
Can you feel that? Yeah
We'll pay them with love tonight

It's not about the money, money, money
We don't need your money, money, money
We just wanna make the world dance
Forget about the price tag

Ain't about the cha-ching, cha-ching
Ain't about the ba-bling, ba-bling
Wanna make the world dance
Forget about the price tag

Yeah, yeah, well, keep the price tag and take the cash back
Just give me six strings and a half stack
And you can keep the cars, leave me the garage
And all I, yes, all I need are keys and guitars

And guess what, in 30 seconds I'm leaving to Mars
Yes, we leaving across these undefeatable odds
It's like this man, you can't put a price on life
We do this for the love, so we fight and sacrifice every night

So we ain't gon' stumble and fall, never
Waiting to see, a sign of defeat, uh uh
So we gon' keep everyone moving their feet
So bring back the beat and then everybody sing, it's not about

It's not about the money, money, money
We don't need your money, money, money
We just wanna make the world dance
Forget about the price tag

Ain't about the cha-ching, cha-ching
Ain't about the ba-bling, ba-bling
Wanna make the world dance
Forget about the price tag

It's not about the money, money, money
We don't need your money, money, money
We just wanna make the world dance
Forget about the price tag

Ain't about the cha-ching, cha-ching
Ain't about the ba-bling, ba-bling
Wanna make the world dance
Forget about the price tag

Yeah, yeah
Oh, forget about the price tag

That's all for this TT folks!!! Until next time!!! :D

  1. I LOVE this song! :) And I love what you said about people just wanting to be happy. :) I want to be a singer because music makes me happy, and I want to inspire people and make other people happy, not just because of fame and fortune. :) Awesome choice!
