Follow me Friday! #11

Hey guys!

It's time for Follow Friday!!! :D

Okay so this week's question is:

Question: Have you ever bought a book BECAUSE of a bad review?

Answer: I can honestly say I haven't. I feel like if I were to read one or two bad reviews it wouldn't sway my opinion that much as to whether or not I read it (unless a bunch of my friends were telling me not to read it, since they pretty much know my taste); if a book sounds interesting, then I'm willing to give it a chance. However, if the majority of the reviews the book gets are bad ones (and by majority, I mean a lot of people have read it and said how they feel about it), then chances are a book's not going to be at the tippy-top of my list of books to read.
To put it simply, I think reading bad reviews for a book will definitely get my attention and make me more aware as I choose my next book to read, but at the end of the day I still like to make my own judgements about it.
To put it even simpler: No. :)

That's all for this Friday (*cough, Thursday) folks!!! I'd love for you all to come back for the What's the Word? Weekend post I'll make either Saturday or Sunday!!! :D

I can honestly say that I have and continue to read books that get negative reviews. I guess I'm a glutton for punishment!

  2. I agree! There has to be a majority of people either liking or disliking a book to have any sway over my decision to read it.

  3. I agree! Like a lot of people are gonna say, there's too many books I wanna read, that usually have good reviews. I don't want to spend time on a book with poor reviews.

  7. I have definitely read a book because of a bad review... I read a bad review on Wither by Lauren DeStefano and I was interested in reading it so I did and loved it!

  9. I feel like even if I see a book that has a bad review, I have to read it for myself, because everyone has their own opinions.

  10. I agree with you, I prefer to read books that have great reviews because I know there will be a possibility I enjoy it than these ones.

  11. I try not to read reviews, just because I don't want to get an opinion of them that might not mirror my own.

Hah, I do fall for the bad reviews as much as for the raving ones. Something about extremes, I guess, they just speak to me, lol.

  16. Definitely agree. I think reading reviews can help, but only if they say WHY they gave it the rating they did, so I can judge for myself. Some people hate things I like, and vice versa.

  17. New follower here =)

Reviews matter a lot to me. Not unless the book became controversial that I would really feel the need to read that book.
